Inspire – High potential and gifted education

At Gwynneville Public School, we are committed to recognising and nurturing the unique strengths of our students through our Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) program. Many of our learners demonstrate exceptional talents across a range of areas, and we strive to support these abilities through enriching and challenging learning experiences integrated into everyday classroom life.

Our dedicated teachers identify each student’s individual learning needs and apply evidence-based strategies to extend and stimulate their potential. This includes providing flexible learning pathways such as enrichment activities, extension tasks and acceleration opportunities when appropriate. Identification of students with high potential or giftedness is a collaborative process that involves teachers and values insights from families. This ensures tailored support for learners across all domains.

At Gwynneville Public School, we foster classroom environments that promote creativity, risk-taking, collaboration always maintain high expectations of our students. Students which are identified as High Potential, Gifted or Highly Gifted are engaged with targeted instruction designed to challenge and inspire. Our approach includes open-ended tasks, enrichment programs, leadership opportunities, sporting and creative arts opportunities and access to entrance into external HPGE programs (such as the AGAT stream).

Our HPGE practices align with the NSW Department of Education’s HPGE policy framework, which recognises four essential gifted domains:

Creative Domain: Encouraging originality and expression through creative thinking, problem-solving, and artistic pursuits.
Intellectual (Cognitive) Domain: Providing stimulating learning experiences that promote higher-order thinking, deep inquiry, and intellectual growth.
Physical Domain: Supporting physical development and wellbeing through activities that enhance coordination, health, and physical skills.
Social-Emotional Domain: Fostering emotional resilience, self-awareness, and positive social interactions essential for gifted learners’ wellbeing.
